If you’ve been anywhere on the internet the last two or three months, I’m sure you’ve heard of ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) disease. It’s a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
ALS.org allows you to donate towards the research and cure for this disease. Due to the feeling that ALS causes, throughout the internet a challenge off dumping a ice bucket over ones head has been issued. Below are some of my favorite videos that celebrities have accepted.
(I’ll likely add more as I remember more).
