My Geek Confessions #148 – 04/17/2015

Welcome to our episode for April 17, 2015!

It’s been a big week in nerdom with lots of trailers, the truth behind the Dennis Quaid freakout, David Hasselhoff’s music video for Kung Fury, and more videos. Wonder Woman loses then gains a director, Colton Haynes leaves Arrow,  and Ellen’s game gets a TV game show.

In Talk Nerdy to Me, we have Marvel Spider-man and Hulk news, Archie meeting his latest foe in Archie vs. Sharknado, Chihayafuru gets a live-action movie, and Noragami and Seven Deadly Sins both have new OVA episodes on the way.

It’s an extremely video heavy episode, so we apologize in advance.

“My Geek Confessions – Watching Bad Movies, So You Don’t Have To!”

  • This week was full of very big movie trailers. So instead of explaining every single trailer, we’ll just put them one right after the other since you should watch them all anyway. First is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, next is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then Ant-Man, and finally a new trailer for Terminator: Genesys. Let us know which trailer is your favorite in the comments.
  • The cast of the Avengers are everywhere as they promote the Age of Ultron and they receive awards. First up is a news clip from MTV movie awards where Robert Downey Jr. receives the Generation Award (with some good life advice while making the Avengers take a knee) and then several clips from when the cast were guests on Jimmy Kimmel, plus the special after credits scene as Jimmy Kimmel and Paul Rudd gently ransack a fake set.
  • The rumor mill was working over time when there was leaked footage of Dennis Quaid freaking out on the set of his latest movie. Much of the internet thought it was another Jimmy Kimmel prank (which he responded to and we’ve included below) but the truth is that it ended up all being an elaborate prank set up by Funny or Die for a new video where all that he was complaining about was literally in the video itself. Be warned: there is explicit language but much has a double meaning.
  • While on the movie side WB/DC released a disappointing trailer for Batman vs Superman, on the TV side they released a fun Flash/Arrow Superhero Fight Club promo to promote both superhero programs. Not only does it have the different heroes fighting other heroes, but it also has the villains show up to “blow off some steam.” Honestly, this is just proving to us that this is what DC properties should be like and not what’s going on the big screen. All we can say is, CW keep up the good work! You’re our only hope for DC properties right now.
  • The real Stephen Hawking (with his electronic voice) singing Monty Python’s Galaxy Song in a great music video tribute to both Monty Python and Stephen Hawking. This is a great blending of two different worlds.
  • We finally an English dubbed trailer for When Marnie Was There, the latest Studio Ghibli film that’s being brought over by GKids.
  • We’re big Miyano Mamoru fans not just because of his voice acting in anime but also his music. So we’ve included Mamo’s latest music video for the song Shine which also happens to be the theme song for the 3rd season of Uta no Prince-sama.
  • We last talked about the film Kung Fury quite a bit ago, and not only was the movie funded many times its goal but now released an amazing music video starring David Hasselhoff (and his mullet) in a perfect parody of heroic movie medley from the 80s with an admittedly good song titled “True Survivor.” Check it out, you definitely won’t regret it.
