Goosebumps

GoosebumpsOne of our favorite movies from the last year, Goosebumps is a movie that I think will be remembered just as dearly as Hocus Pocus. If you never got a chance to see this in theaters, make sure that you do now! Zach Cooper and his mother move from New York City to a small town in Delaware for a fresh start. Zach discovers that the father of Hannah, the cute girl next door, is none other than the famous author R.L. Stine. Thanks to R.L. Stine’s overactive imagination, the monsters in his books are real and the original manuscripts must be locked away or they will terrorize the world. When Zach, Hannah, and their new friend Champ accidentally release Slappy the evil ventriloquist doll, Slappy decides it’s time for the rest of the monsters to come out to play and take their revenge on R.L. Stine for their imprisonment in books, once and for all. If you’re a fan of the Goosebumps books, the movie is full of various references to Goosebumps characters and books as well as tons of jokes that will leave your nostalgia satisfied. Stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Amy Ryan, Ryan Lee, Ken Marino, Jillian Bell and R.L. Stine. Rated PG.

Burnt

Burnt – A once top chef, Adam Jones, (played by Bradley Cooper) that lost everything because of drugs and alcohol moves around the world trying to rebuild after losing a restaurant that previously had two Michelin stars. The cook gets a second shot at his dream when his former maître d’ (head of staff) hires him as a head chef for his restaurant. After some additional hires of underappreciated staff, Adam demands perfection as he seeks to go after three Michelin stars (the top honor a restaurant can get in quality). I laugh every time it’s brought up because yes it is related to the tire manufacturer and cars. Stars Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Alicia Vikander, Jamie Dornan, Lily James, Emma Thompson, and Daniel Bruhl. Rated R.

TV

Doctor Who: Series 9 Part 2

Doctor Who: Series 9 Part 2 – The second half of the 9th season of the restarted version of Doctor Who (meaning it’s always hard to tell where you are. Doctor Who continues the original Doctor Who season count as well as new season count with the added confusion that the UK calls them “series” instead of seasons like we do in the United States) where the Doctor faces his final adventure with his latest companion Clara. Not Rated.

Downton Abbey: Season 6

Downton Abbey: Season 6 – The long-awaited final season of the hit BBC/PBS drama of Downton Abbey. Not Rated.

Unreal: Season 1

Unreal: Season 1 – The first season of the Lifetime original comedy series about producing a reality TV series and creating controversy for ratings. I haven’t seen the series but it does have Constance Zimmer who recently guest starred as Rosalind Price in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so if you’re wanting to see more of her, this is the way to do it. Not Rated.

Cartoon/Anime

Alvin & The Chipmunks: Season 1 - Vol 2

Alvin & The Chipmunks: Season 1 – Vol 2 – Volume two of the weirdly animated computer generated version of the Alvin and the Chipmunks. I don’t know much about this release as the info is pretty barren but it does come with both English and French audio tracks. Not Rated.

Naruto Shippuden Uncut: Set 25

Naruto Shippuden Uncut: Set 25 – The next Naruto Shippuden set that contains episodes 310 – 322 that features episodes continuing the Fourth Great Ninja War, a prologue to the Road to Ninja movie, and features the first dub appearance of Madara Uchiha. Not Rated.

One Piece: Season 7 - Voyage Five

One Piece: Season 7 – Voyage Five – The latest volumed release for One Piece with episodes 434 – 445. Luffy continues to fight his way through the Impel Down prison to rescue his brother Ace but fights the Warden Magellan. Warden Magellan has devil fruit powers that gives them the power of various poisons that may kill Luffy. Not Rated.

Kingdom: Season 1

Kingdom: Season 1 – A slightly odd release from Funimation. The series originally was released online as a simulcast in 2012 by Funimation but it wasn’t until October 2015 that it was announced that it was getting an English dub and released on DVD. Two young boys dreaming of becoming famous generals but are foiled by a plot to overthrow the king. After one of them is killed, the other goes on a quest for revenge. Not Rated.

Re: Hamatora: Season 2

Re: Hamatora: Season 2 – The second season of Hamatora that’s dubbed by Sentai Filmworks. The Minimum Holders (mutants) at the Hamatora Detective Agency are faced with a new enemy that has come back from the dead and can steal their powers. Not Rated.

Momokyun Sword

Momokyun Sword – A sub only release from Sentai Filmworks that’s a take on the story of Momotaro but changes Momo into a busty female. Not Rated.

Yowamushi Pedal: The Complete First Season

Yowamushi Pedal: The Complete First Season – Yowamushi Pedal is another popular sports anime that has been popular on the internet that sadly has been saddled with s subtitled only release from Eastern Star. While the set does include the entire 38 episode first season, this sports anime focused on competitive biking may not be found by the average person unless they were specifically looking for it. Not Rated.

Aldnoah Zero Set 3 Cover

Aldnoah.Zero Set 3 – The 3rd volume of Aldnoah.Zero with episodes 13 – 18 that is a RightStuf exclusive. Though being a Terrain, Slaine becomes a Mars Knight and starts to attack Earth. Remember, if you haven’t seen the series and would like to check it out and the dub before purchasing, the entire series is available on Netflix. Not Rated.

Giant Gorg: The Complete TV Series

Giant Gorg: The Complete TV Series – Though announced that the 1984 anime series Giant Gorg would get a release in the early 2000s here in the United States, Giant Gorg was never officially released until now, in this sub only set from Eastern Star. Giant Gorg follows the young Yuu, who travels to New York City to meet Dr. Wave and together they go to the mysterious New Austral Island that suddenly appeared out of the Pacific Ocean just a decade earlier. Not Rated.

Video Games

LEGO Marvel's Avengers

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers – The latest LEGO game, this one based off of Marvel’s Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is a little different from the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes in that it takes dialogue and plot directly from the movies but puts the usual LEGO spin on top of everything. But if you’ve been a fan of some of the other LEGO adaptations of movies then this is sure to be another fun addition. Available for the PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 3DS, and Wii U. Rated E for Everyone 10 and Up. – Sorry this title for Amazon didn’t include all the systems like they usually do.

Final Fantasy Explorers

Final Fantasy Explorers – An exclusive to the 3DS, Final Fantasy Explorers allows for both single and multiplayer and instead of the usual story based style of the rest of the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy Explorers is more quest based and even allows for changing the difficulty of the quests. Available only for the 3DS. Rated Everyone 10 and Up.
