New Releases for June 19, 2012

Unfortunately when the biggest release this week on video is Project X it’s a week to catch up on other releases.

[amazon_link id=”B004QL7K8E” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Project X (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + UltraViolet Digital Copy)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B004QL7K8E” target=”_blank” ]Project X[/amazon_link] – A found footage type film about who tries to throw an epic 17th birthday party for himself. Things quickly escalate completely out of control. This is sort of like The Hangover but for teens. This movie also unfortunately caused a lot of hospitalizations and arrests across the nation. So basically stupid people copying a stupid movie. Stars Thomas Mann and Oliver Cooper. Rated (Heavy) R.

[amazon_link id=”B005LAIGQE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Big Miracle (BD Combo Disc + Digital Copy + UltraViolet) [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B005LAIGQE” target=”_blank” ]Big Miracle[/amazon_link] – I’m sorry to my friend Melissa, but I can’t ignore this movie about whales. This movie is based off a true story from 1988 about trying to save whales trapped in ice in Alaska. A reporter and a Greenpeace worker team up to get various groups to help them save the family of whales. Stars Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Ted Danson, and Kristen Bell. Rated PG.

[amazon_link id=”B004QL7K6Q” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Wanderlust (Two-Disc Combo Pack: Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B004QL7K6Q” target=”_blank” ]Wanderlust[/amazon_link] – Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star as a married couple that i forced to move in with his brother in Atlanta after he loses his job in New York. There they discover a nudist hippie colony. I’m not sure where the plot goes from there. Not sure I want to know. Stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston. Rated R.

[amazon_link id=”B007L6VPQO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Jeff, Who Lives at Home (+UltraViolet) [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007L6VPQO” target=”_blank” ]Jeff, Who Lives at Home[/amazon_link] – Jeff, Who Lives at Home was originally at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival. Jeff (Jason Segel) is sent out of his mother’s basement in search of some wood glue, and his destiny. He meets up with his brother Pat (Ed Helms) to try to help him through his failed marriage. Stars Jason Segel, Ed Helms, and Susan Sarandon. Rated R.

[amazon_link id=”B007IUEEBQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Seeking Justice [Two Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007IUEEBQ” target=”_blank” ]Seeking Justice[/amazon_link] – In this movie with a decent cast, but I swear I’ve never heard anything about, Wil Gerard’s (played by Nicolas Cage) wife is attacked after leaving work one day. While she is recovering in the hospital, a man played by Guy Pierce, appears with an offer. An anonymous person will get justice for his wife, in exchange Wil will owe him a favor in the future. I think we can guess that things go downhill from there. Stars Nicholas Cage, Guy Pearce, January Jones, and Xander Berekely. Rated R.

[amazon_link id=”B007I8KXPE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The FP [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

The FP – [amazon_link id=”B007I8KXPE” target=”_blank” ]The FP [Blu-ray][/amazon_link] – This is a strange movie. It’s set in a dystopian future where to warring factions are fighting for control of a particular area by using a deadly competition fight version of “Beat Beat Revolution” (Basically Dance Dance Revolution). Stars Jason Trost, Lee Valmassy, Art Hsu, Nick Principe, and Brandon Barrera. Rated R.

[amazon_link id=”B004YM6JCS” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Wilfred: The Complete First Season [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B004YM6JCS” target=”_blank” ]Wilfred: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link] – The strange FX comedy where Elijah Wood’s character has a dog that looks like a dog to everyone else, but a man in a suit to him. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007QU37L6″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Louie: Season 2 [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007QU37L6″ target=”_blank” ]Louie: Season 2[/amazon_link] – The second season of the series based off the life of Louis C.K. as a series for FX. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B003Y5HWLS” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Franklin & Bash: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B003Y5HWLS” target=”_blank” ]Franklin & Bash: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link] – The first season of the fairly popular and funny TNT series. The main characters use uncharacteristic methods in order to win cases. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007I8KXDQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Radio Rebel[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007I8KXDQ” target=”_blank” ]Radio Rebel[/amazon_link] – A made-for-tv movie for the Disney Channel that I believe Cori enjoyed is about a High School student that has the secret of being the most popular radio DJ in Seattle. I haven’t seen it, but I feel like the Disney Channel movies have lost much of their magic since High School Musical and they are all trying to be the same. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007I1Q4Q8″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Hey Dude: Season 3[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007I1Q4Q8″ target=”_blank” ]Hey Dude: Season 3[/amazon_link] – A series I do remember fondly from my youth from Nickelodeon. I will say I hope that Nick continues to release shows that I haven’t seen in forever like Salute Your Shorts and Space Cases. Come on Nick, step it up a little. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007NLRLPG” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Power Rangers Samurai: The Team Unites (Volume One)[/amazon_link]

Power Rangers Samurai: The Team Unites – The first volume of the new Power Rangers series that’s currently airing on Nickelodeon. I found out a few years ago that ALL of the Power Rangers series are connected to each other and this new series seals the deal. It takes place in Angel Grove, and even has Bulk (a character from the original series as comic relief) is now teaching the son of Skull (his partner in the comedy duo) to be a Samurai. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007K7IBXE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]K-ON!: Season 2 Collection 1 [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007K7IBXE” target=”_blank” ]K-ON!: Season 2 Collection 1[/amazon_link] – The second season of the the very popular (for reasons I don’t understand) anime series. High School Girls in a Rock Band. Yeah. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B007K7ICE2″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Golgo 13: Collection 4[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007K7ICE2″ target=”_blank” ]Golgo 13: Collection 4[/amazon_link] – The next set in the series about an assassin. That’s about all I know. It’s well known? Might be good? Not Rated.

Video Games

We actually have some decent releases this week.

[amazon_link id=”B006ZPAYGE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B006ZPAYGE” target=”_blank” ]Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes[/amazon_link] – My absolute favorite release of the week. This is a sequel but is a big one. One great addition (in my opinion) is that the characters actually talk in this one and they have some AMAZING voice actors in it such as Troy Baker (doing many roles), Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Steve Blum, and others. Not only that but it looks really funny and fun to play to boot. And as an added bonus we get lots of other super heroes and even have Superman being kind of a dick. Rated E for Everyone.

[amazon_link id=”B007RUY1NS” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Pokemon Conquest[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007RUY1NS” target=”_blank” ]Pokemon Conquest[/amazon_link] – I have too many friends that are still interested in Pokemon that would get mad if I skipped over this release. So we have the new version that mixes Pokemon with Samurai. Rated E for Everyone.

[amazon_link id=”B007C72F2U” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007C72F2U” target=”_blank” ]Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods and Kings[/amazon_link] – An expansion pack to the fifth iteration of the popular game series about guiding the development of entire cultures and societies. Rated E for Everyone.
