New Releases for March 01, 2016 – Oscar Noms and LEGO, Oh my!

Creed – Creed is both a sequel and a spin-off of the original Rocky movie and the seventh film in the franchise. It also is released in theaters on the same day the original Rocky was released to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Adonis Johnson is son of boxer Apollo Creed but never had a chance to know him, with Apollo dying before he was even born. Wanting to become boxer like his father, Adonis turns to Rocky Balboa to train and mentor him to get a title match. Rocky sees a lot of Apollo in Adonis and tries to help Adonis do what it takes to win, even against a much stronger opponent. Stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew, Graham McTavish, Wood Harris, Andre Ward, and Gabriel Rosado. Rated PG-13.

The Night Before

The Night Before – Three friends make an annual tradition of hanging out to party on Christmas Eve when Ethan’s parents die on Christmas Eve 14 years earlier and a failed suicide attempt a decade earlier. However now that they have all progressed in life and one of Ethan’s friends Isaac is about to be a father, they decide to end the tradition with as big of bang as possible by cramming as many traditions in as possible and searching for the infamous Nutcracka Ball. If you like other Seth Rogen movies like Pineapple Express or This is the End you may enjoy this one. However on the plus side it is the same director as Warm Bodies. Stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, Lizzy Caplan, Jillian Bell, Michael Shannon, and Mindy Kaling. Rated R.

Room – The movie for which Brie Larson won for Best Actress, about a mother and son that are trapped in a small room by their captor until they are able to escape. Rated R.

The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl – Another film that was nominated for an Academy Award, The Danish Girl is a complicated title in that it is based off of a fictional novel of the same name but based on the real life of Lili Elbe, who was one of the first transgender recipients of gender reassignment surgery. Rated R.

Childhood's End

Childhood’s End – The extremely popular SyFy miniseries based off the novel by Arthur C. Clarke about subversive alien invasion that stifles human culture. Not Rated.

The Americans: Season 3

The Americans: Season 3 – The third season of the FX drama about two KGB operatives living outside of Washington D.C. and must hide their cover. This third season comes out just a couple weeks before season 4 is set to start on FX. Not Rated.

Z Nation: Season 2

Z Nation: Season 2 – The SyFy horror comedy series about transporting the only survivor of a zombie bite across the country from New York City to Los Angeles. This second season was well-known for having a zombie George RR Martin show up as a cameo. Not Rated.

Drunk History: Season 3

Drunk History: Season 3 – The third season of the Comedy Central series of drunk comedians explaining historical events as accurately as they can while lip sync’d reenactments are played. Definitely a fun series to watch. This link leads to a special Amazon cover version of the season set. Not Rated.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash – I wasn’t aware but apparently the LEGO Batman: The Movie and the rest of the LEGO DC Comics Super Hero movies are all connected and this is the fifth one. In this movie, Brainiac is trying to take over Earth and because the Justice League stands in his way, he sends various members into various time periods so they can’t be a threat. So Batman, Cyborg, and Flash (not sure how they are as important on this one compared to Flash) use the Cosmic Treadmill to save the members of the Justice League from being lost in time and return back to defend the Earth from Brainiac. Not Rated.

Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales

Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales – LEGO brings out the best parts of Star Wars and continues it with this miniseries that aired on Disney XD. The set contains 5 episodes that tells the adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2 as they retell the stories of the major Star Wars movies. This is probably the better way to see the episodes since they aired months apart on Disney XD. Not Rated.

Barbie: Spy Squad

Barbie: Spy Squad – This is a thing. Basically this is Barbie meets Totally Spies. Barbie and her friends are top gymnasts and are recruited to be secret agents along with robotic animal pet things to capture jewel stealing cat burglar. Not Rated.

Digimon Fusion: Season 2

Digimon Fusion: Season 2 – The second season of Digimon Fusion with 5 disc full as Mikey and Shoutmon continue to fight through the Digital World and now find it taken over by the Bagra Empire. The series has been on Nicktoons and the first season has been available on Netflix so this is a good way to catch up. Not Rated.

Wizard Barristers

Wizard Barristers – A dubbed release from Sentai Filmworks. The easiest way to sum this up magic Wizard Lawyers defend magic criminals in magic court. Not Rated.
