New Releases for October 16, 2012

Again this week we have tons of Christmas releases that I choose not to include.

DVD/Blu-Ray

Movies

[amazon_link id=”B005LAIHWM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy + UltraViolet and Rainbow Wig)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B005LAIHWM” target=”_blank” ]Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted[/amazon_link] – The third sequel in the Madagascar franchise and the first in 3D. The animals are trying to America and only made it to Europe and are on the run from Animal Control. If the funniest bit that you can promote is Chris Rock doing the joke “Afro Circus” repeatedly then the movie probably isn’t that great. And I really no longer want to support Chris Rock after he said that voice work was the easiest thing in the world and getting paid a million dollars. I know MANY people do it better then him would love that kind of money. This set comes with it’s own Rainbow Afro, if that floats your boat. Stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Cedric the Entertainer. Rated PG.

[amazon_link id=”B008C0C26U” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Pete's Dragon: 35th Anniversary Edition [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008C0C26U” target=”_blank” ]Pete’s Dragon: 35th Anniversary Edition[/amazon_link] – A Blu-Ray rerelease of one of my favorite Disney movies. Pete sees a dragon that no one else can see, but it turns out to be true. It’s a very fun movie though maybe not for little kids. Rated G.

[amazon_link id=”B007L6VR6M” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Moonrise Kingdom (Two-Disc Combo Pack: Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007L6VR6M” target=”_blank” ]Moonrise Kingdom[/amazon_link] – The new Wes Anderson movie that was all the hipster rage this summer. A very star studded cast leads the movie about two kids that fall in love and make a secret pact to runaway together, making the parents and law enforcement freak out. Stars Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Bob Balaban. Rated PG-13.

[amazon_link id=”B0094V8OXG” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]2016 Obama's America[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B0094V8OXG” target=”_blank” ]2016 Obama’s America[/amazon_link] – A conservative documentary (really don’t get too many of those, no matter how true either side is) about President Obama and what the nation might be like if he was voted in for a second term. This has been on of the surprise documentary hits in recent memory and is coming out right before the election. Rated PG.

[amazon_link id=”B008XBCJ34″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Avatar (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray/ DVD Combo Pack)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008XBCJ34″ target=”_blank” ]Avatar (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray/ DVD Combo Pack)[/amazon_link] – I actually dislike Avatar quite a bit, but I’m only including this to make a point of how badly it was handled. This is the 3D Blu-Ray of the movie that was released nearly three years ago. The moviem, renowned for it’s 3D (really I think the only thing good about the movie) previous to this, was only available if you bought a particular brand of HDTV and was being resold online at a huge markup. This was handled poorly, and really I just blame James Cameron. I still hold out hopes that Avengers or another movie will finally move this out of the top box office spot. Stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver. Rated PG-13.

[amazon_link id=”B008RNYMH4″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]That's My Boy [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008RNYMH4″ target=”_blank” ]That’s My Boy[/amazon_link] – Adam Sandler’s latest comedy. I’m not sure what to think of him anymore. Sometimes he does really good work (I loved Bedtime Stories) and then he does this. His character is raped at 12-years-old by his teacher and become pregnant. Their son, played by Andy Samberg denies his family (I can’t imagine why) and is about to marry into a rich family. Sandler’s character needs to get money to the IRS or he would be sent to prison for 3 years. Basically a recipe for disaster and probably a terrible movie. Stars Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, Will Forte, and many others. Rated R.

[amazon_link id=”B008VPF3LW” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Chernobyl Diaries (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + UltraViolet Digital Copy)[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008VPF3LW” target=”_blank” ]Chernobyl Diaries[/amazon_link] – Chernobyl Diaries is from the creator of Paranormal Activity who wrote and produced this movie. The premise seems to follow a lot of normal horror movie bad ideas. Six young people while on vacation decide to visit the city where Chernobyl was located 25 years later. While there they discover that the city is not as deserted as it was claimed to be. Stars Jesse McCartney, Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, and Dimitri Diatchenko. Rated R.

 TV Series

Some of these are self explanatory, so I won’t explain them.

[amazon_link id=”B008B4MMSK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Alcatraz: The Complete Series [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008B4MMSK” target=”_blank” ]Alcatraz: The Complete Series[Blu-ray][/amazon_link] – The FOX TV series that both Krista and I really liked, but was cancelled with a huge cliff hanger. This is the complete series, but be prepared that it doesn’t end well. Once again FOX didn’t help this out or schedule it well enough I think. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B004HW7JHE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Mad Men: Season Five [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B004HW7JHE” target=”_blank” ]Mad Men: Season Five[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B005PPMI00″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Psych: Season Six[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B005PPMI00″ target=”_blank” ]Psych: Season Six[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B0048LPRDC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Check It Out: Season 1 & 2[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B0048LPRDC” target=”_blank” ]Check It Out: Season 1 & 2[/amazon_link] – The first two seasons of the Adult Swim spin off series. (I actually think it might be the last. Not sure.)  Cartoon Network does seem to be turning to slightly better humor, (thankfully) so who knows if this is all of it or not. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B00919TITU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Awkward: Season 2[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B00919TITU” target=”_blank” ]Awkward: Season 2[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008AITIXO” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Touch: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008AITIXO” target=”_blank” ]Touch: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008I34YEE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Firm: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008I34YEE” target=”_blank” ]The Firm: The Complete First Season[/amazon_link] – First AND only season of the series that was on NBC. Not sure why they even said first season on this. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B008HUSFIE” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Big Bad Beetleborgs: Season One, Vol. 1[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008HUSFIE” target=”_blank” ]Big Bad Beetleborgs: Season One, Vol. 1[/amazon_link] – Another release of a Power Rangers type TV show from my childhood finally on DVD. Not Rated.

Anime

[amazon_link id=”B008HHTDEM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008HHTDEM” target=”_blank” ]Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy[/amazon_link] – This was released in 1998, but is set one year after the series from the 1980s. This is another series by Leiji Matsumoto, who also did one of my favorite series of Galaxy Railways. His worlds are interesting in that they have converted trains and battleships as the means for human transportation in space. The movie is a bit short and sub only. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B008NNY9HQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Tenchi Muyo! Universe Box Set[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008NNY9HQ” target=”_blank” ]Tenchi Muyo! Universe Box Set[/amazon_link] – A rerelease of the Tenchi series by Funimation. Though this is the original dub and is a classic. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B008KZX7QQ” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Someday's Dreamers II Sora: Complete Collection[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008KZX7QQ” target=”_blank” ]Someday’s Dreamers II Sora: Complete Collection[/amazon_link] – A sequel to Someday’s Dreamers that I never knew existed. Apparently this one is based on the third manga series and came out in Japan in 2008. However while the first series had a dub, this one is put out by Section 23 and sub only. Not Rated.

[amazon_link id=”B008NNY9V2″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Ga-Rei-Zero: The Complete Series [Blu-ray][/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008NNY9V2″ target=”_blank” ]Ga-Rei-Zero: The Complete Series [Blu-ray][/amazon_link] – This is a Funimation rerelease of the whole series and on Blu-Ray. Two sisters take down demons until one of them is possessed. This is a prequel to the manga series. Not Rated.

Video Games

This week no big releases but I included some interesting ones below.

[amazon_link id=”B007V9NHM6″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]007 Legends[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B007V9NHMQ” target=”_blank” ]007 Legends[/amazon_link] – This game is supposed to recreate different plots from all 50 years of the James Bond movies, but your character looks like Daniel Craig. It’s also supposed to have stuff from the new movie, but this far in advance of the movie, it seems a little spoilery to me. Available for PS3, XBox 360, Wii U (still not available.) Rated T for Teen.

[amazon_link id=”B008E6ZXTA” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Doom 3 BFG Edition[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B008E6ZXTA” target=”_blank” ]Doom 3 BFG Edition[/amazon_link] – This is a rerelease of the 2005 Doom 3 that’s been upgraded with achievements and the original expansion. It also includes upgrades to 3D and sound to make it seem better. It also comes with the original Doom I and II so it really is the whole trilogy. Available on PS3, XBox 360, and PC. Rated M for Mature.

[amazon_link id=”B006476318″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Silent Hill: Book of Memories[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B006476318″ target=”_blank” ]Silent Hill: Book of Memories[/amazon_link] – A new Silent Hill game just in time for the movie (though only on the Vita). This includes some multiplayer. Available only on the Vita. Rated M for Mature.

[amazon_link id=”B0088MVQIM” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Rocksmith Guitar and Bass[/amazon_link]

[amazon_link id=”B004S5TDUQ” target=”_blank” ]Rocksmith Guitar And Bass[/amazon_link] – This is an odd game. Because it’s not. Apparently its using video game systems as a way to learn to play guitar. But requires lots of equipment outside the game, so this is quite the investment. Available for PS3, XBox 360, and PC. Somehow still rated T for Teen.
