New Releases for October 28, 2014

Deliver Us From Evil (2 Discs) [Blu-ray]

Deliver Us From Evil – Deliver Us From Evil is “based on the real life events” *wink wink* of a New York City cop who joins with renegade priest who performs exorcisms on the demon caused events that happen in the city. For some reason this one has some decent star power behind it, despite being a horror movie. Stars Eric Bana, Édgar Ramírez, Olivia Munn, Sean Harris, and Joel McHale. Rated R.

Wish I Was Here (Blu-ray + DVD + DIGITAL HD)

Wish I Was Here – The Zach Braff Kickstarter movie (think of that what you will). An actor has to home school his children when their grandfather can no longer pay for their private school. This sounds like a total first world problem. Stars Zach Braff, Josh Gad, Ashley Greene, Kate Hudson, Joey King, and Mandy Patinkin. Rated R.

Begin Again [Blu-ray]

Begin Again – A record label executive going through marital problems meets an independent songwriter that’s just been in a difficult relationship. They try to collaborate together to make an album and it doesn’t work. Eventually the exec reconciles with his wife. Now go see something else. Stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Catherine Keener, Hailee Steinfeld, and James Corden. Rated R.

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist - Live Action (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist – A Machinima YouTube webseries that many think is the best live-action interrpretation of the property ever has been turned into a miniseries for Blu-ray and DVD. I’ve seen some of this series and it’s very well done with great fights and effects considering the budget. If only others would learn to make webseries like this. Not Rated.

Nothing this week

Hellsing Ultimate: Volumes 9 & 10 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Hellsing Ultimate: Volumes 9 & 10 – The final installment of Hellsing Ultimate that our guest Taliesin Jaffe has been the director on, that’s been delayed often because of the collapse of Geneon, is finally completely out in all it’s glory right before it finishes airing on Toonami. Not Rated.

Dragon Ball Z: Season 8 [Blu-ray]

Dragon Ball Z: Season 8 – The Blu-Ray remaster of the Majin Buu saga (at least part of it) of Dragon Ball Z. Not Rated.

Ghost in the Shell Arise: Borders 1 & 2 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Ghost in the Shell Arise: Borders 1 & 2 – The first two episodes of the Ghost in the Shell prequel OVA series. The episodes are nearly an hour each so this is basically movie length. However, this is with a Dallas based Funimation cast instead of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Los Angeles based cast. But in its defense, it is both a prequel and was recast on the Japanese side as well but Funimation did a good job at getting voices that sound similar and made different homages to the original cast, including a cameo from the original voice of Matoko, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. We were able to see the first episode of this OVA and were really impressed on how it was handled. If you’re a Ghost in the Shell fan, this is one that you should pick up. Not Rated.

Fairy Tail: Part 13 [Blu-ray]

Fairy Tail: Part 13 – The Oración Seis has kidnapped Lucy to use her power to run a powerful doomsday clock and both Fairy Tail and others are doing their best to stop the weapon from being used. But only Fairy Tail wants to save Lucy, so it’s a race against time to to stop the clock (ha! Puns). This is episodes 143 – 153 and with plenty of special features. Not Rated.

Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East 2 [Blu-ray]

Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East 2 – The second half of another Sentai Filmworks dub! The next part of the Hakkenden (part one that came out in May) and apparently Shino has bonded with the living sword Masamune. Not Rated.

Otorimonogatari Blu-ray cover

Otorimonogatari: Nadeko Medusa – A Rightstuf Aniplex exclusive release with just 4 episodes. Apparently is the third arc of the second season of this show and has a girl who encounters a snake deity and then swallows the object that he was after and becomes an apparition herself. Not Rated.
